Children, (continued from page 9)

"...provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). The word "nurture" means "breeding; education; training. To educate" (Webster). The word "chastening" indicates discipline. Therefore, fathers are to discipline their children in such a way as to train them. This calls for proper discipline, not harsh or inconsistent. The right kind of discipline will build character. It is discipline that is based upon the "admonition of the Lord." Therefore, parents must discipline in accordance with the word of God.

Children Need A Home Worth Remembering

Will your children be able to look back on your home as a happy, wonderful haven from the cares of a troubled world? What will they remember? Constant arguing and fussing? Will they remember peace, happiness and contentment? Remember, by devotion to God, Bible reading, family prayer and daily Christian living, a home is built. Children need to be able to retain fond memories of pleasant hours spent with loving, Christian parents. However, far too many parents are too busy making a living to make a home life for their children.

Children Need A Christian Home

A Christian home is based upon Christ and His teaching (Colossians 3:16). It is overseen by God's chain of command: "But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of

Christ is God" (1 Corinthians 11:3). Undergirding the Christian home is love: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25). Finally, a Christian home must start with a Christian husband and wife, father and mother. An unknown poet has beautifully described a Christian home:

Where family prayer is daily had,
God's word is regularly read,
and Faith in Christ is never dead,
This is a Christian home.
Where father, mother, sister, brother,
All have true love for one another,
And none ever hates the other,
This is a Christian home.
Where family quarrels are pushed aside,
To let the love of God abide,
Ere darkness falls at even tide,
This is a Christian home.
Where Jesus Christ is host and guest,
Through whom we have eternal rest
and In Him are forever blest,
This is a Christian home.

Children need many things, but the greatest need is that of a Christian home. May God help parents to provide these most important needs of children: teaching worth hearing, an example worth following, discipline that builds character, a home worth remembering, in short A CHRISTIAN HOME!

Old Testament, (continued from page 4)

Even though it is stated that the contention between Paul and Barnabas was "sharp," it is suggested by some that Paul may have merely "requested," and not even "pressingly" that Mark not be taken. At any rate the point is that these two great soldiers of the cross did not become enemies over their disagreement about John Mark. It is later stated by Paul in some instruction given to Timothy that he bring Mark, "for he is profitable to me for the ministry" (2 Tim. 4:11).

Current Situations Between Brethren

Everyone who has not hidden his head in the sand knows that there are false brethren among us who are dedicated to the complete restructure of the church of the Lord (1John 4:1). We know who they are, where they are, and how to handle them.

These would seek to destroy the unity that we enjoy by separating us from God and from one another. If we are separated from the Truth, we no longer agree with God and he will not walk with us. When Paul warned us to remove ourselves from those in error (2Cor 6:14-18), he reminds us of God’s promise in Leviticus 26:12, "And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people."

Additionally, those who pervert the Truth destroy the unity that brethren enjoy, for they no longer agree. The false teachers in Galatia had "perverted" the Gospel and "troubled" the brethren, tearing them apart (Gal 1:6-9). Indeed, there will never be religious unity, unless we all walk together in agreement with God.
