"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Romans 10:13-15).

Since God has chosen that men should be saved by hearing and obeying the Gospel (1Cor 1:21), then if we truly care about the souls of people, we will do what we can to preach and send others to preach. The world is in such dire need of faithful Gospel preachers, yet few are willing or able to answer the call.

As our society changes, we often see those changes affect the church. Many who have preached full time, have found it necessary to leave the pulpit in order to support their families. Additionally, there are many faithful men who are unable to attend a preaching school full time or even preach full time, yet they possess the desire to do the Lord’s work. The Online Academy of Biblical Studies was created with just such situations in mind.

Overseen by the Phillips Street church of Christ in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the school first opened its virtual doors in January 2000. The schools director, Tom Bright, is a capable and faithful Gospel preacher who is devoted to spreading the Gospel of Christ. Additionally, other faculty members include Marion Fox, Ted Thrasher, and Robert R. Taylor, Jr.

The Online Academy of Biblical Studies (OABS) is a full service school of Bible studies that is conducted and administered over the internet. Classes are conducted in real time and students and teachers interact with each other just as if they were in a traditional class room setting. It will take a student four years to complete the entire program with classes meeting on Saturdays for a seven hour period of time. Additionally, students will have

assignments and home work outside of the class that they will be expected to complete. Once the student has finished the schedule of studies, a total of fifty-six (56) semester hours will have been completed.

There are four classes each semester that provide an in depth and thorough education in the Bible and related subjects. Each book of the Bible is studied along with classes covering doctrine, church history, Greek language, Bible geography, and preaching.

There are no tuition costs to attend the Online Academy of Biblical Studies and the program is supported by many churches of Christ who recognize both the need and value of an online administered Bible program. The only costs that students must bear are for technological tools they need to access the classes. Each student needs a good computer with video and audio capabilities and internet access over at least a 56K modem. Other costs the student will have are for books or other materials used in class work.

OABS is not for everyone and only those who are wholly dedicated to studying the Bible will find that it is right for them. Though the program is intensive and long, those who finish the course will no doubt find that it is also rewarding and a truly valuable experience. Additionally, the program is not restricted to men who desire to preach, but men and women who simply want the opportunity of intense bible study are encouraged to enroll.

It is our pleasure to highly commend to you this outstanding school and we thank the Lord for the technological advances that have made it possible. Our continued prayers go with the Phillips St. church, the faculty, and the students of the Online Academy of Biblical Studies.
