In this section of the Fruit Of The Spirit, a different congregation of the Lord’s church from the state of California is featured every issue. This quarter, it is our pleasure to feature a congregation very near and dear to our hearts; our own.

In 1941, the Vacaville church of Christ began meeting in the home of D.H.Williams at 635 Williams St. in Vacaville. By 1944, they had moved into an old retail store, and then later built a new building on Williams Street. As they continued to grow, they once again found the need to move to a larger building; which they did in the fall of 1963, after finishing construction on a new building located at 401 Fir Street. Since that time, the brethren at Fir Street have faithfully worshipped and labored in the Lord and for His cause.

Currently the church is overseen by its two elders; David Shephard and Larry West. They also have two deacons; Jeff Bassett and Vance Crouch. Ted Parks is currently serving as the pulpit minister for the congregation and he has been there for two years. Additionally, they are extremely blessed with numerous members who serve as Bible class teachers and various men with both the ability and willingness to preach as needed.

The Fir Street congregation is a vibrant and loving group of Christians whose light not only shines but grows brighter every year. They enjoy a broad range of age groups from toddlers to senior saints, and classes are conducted for every age group. The ladies participate in a quarterly Ladies Luncheon with food, fellowship, and Bible study; and the children’s classes can often be seen helping or visiting the sick.

With an average attendance of around 70, they continue to make their presence known in the community by their influence and personal evangelism. Also, they publish this quarterly Gospel journal, the Fruit Of The Spirit, specifically geared for reaching the lost with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.The congregation also supports two young men who are attending full time preacher training at the Southwest School of Biblical Studies in Austin.

What about the apostle Paul? Such is absurd. We are instructed to follow Paul as he followed Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). Paul tells us in Gal 5:19-21, "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness......of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

God proclaims the following truths. First, "For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he..." (Proverbs 23:7). Secondly, "...abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul." (1 Peter 2:11). Thirdly, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7). Fourthly, remember that , "the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men" (Romans 1:18).
