Fruit of the Spirit

For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth...Eph 5:9

Spring 2000                                                            Volume 1, Issue 2

From The Editors...

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank all those who have helped with the Fruit Of The Spirit. The response has been fantastic and the subscription list continues to grow. At the writing of this section, we are expecting to print eight hundred copies of the spring issue in order to meet the demand.

Our thanks goes out first of all to the brethren of the Vacaville church of Christ. Their commitment to spreading the Gospel of Christ has motivated them to help with the printing, folding, and stapling of the paper. Additionally, many of the members have been taking multiple copies and mailing them to friends and family at their own cost. Finally, despite the increased cost of printing and postage, due to an increased demand, the brethren continue to be committed to providing the Fruit Of The Spirit to anyone who requests it free of charge.

We would also like to thank the many writers who have submitted articles for the Fruit Of The Spirit. This issue contains eleven separate articles of the highest quality. Such a task would be impossible without the help of these writers.

Additionally, our thanks go out to those who have graciously sent money to help defer the cost of printing and postage. Please forgive us for not mentioning them by name; however space simply will not permit it. Yet the Lord who sees in secret will reward them openly (Matt 6:3-4).

As we have already mentioned, the response and requests for the Fruit Of The Spirit have far exceeded what was expected when the paper was first introduced in September 1999. In order to fulfill the need for eight hundred copies this quarter, our office copier will have to print 4,800 pages.

Naturally, such a load is more than what the standard office copier is designed for. If you, or others you know, have used printing equipment that you want to sell, we would appreciate information on acquiring these tools to better facilitate the publishing of the Fruit Of The Spirit.

Please continue to pray for this work and for all those who are laboring in the Lord throughout the world.    FS

think He ought to do. Our responsibility is to (1) let the Lord speak to us through His word (Rom. 10:17) and instruct us what we are to do, and then (2) obey without question. This eliminates problems and confusion.

CONCLUSION

There is never any justification in man's attempts to run away from God, which can never really be done, and such a thing is always an exercise in futility. There is always the need to comply with the instructions given to us. If we do, God will always be pleased and we will be much more content and happy.

CRUCIFY HIM, CRUCIFY HIM !

"...they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him" (Luke 23:21). Pilate, the Roman governor had examined Jesus and found no fault in our Lord regarding the accusations against Him by the crowd and their leaders who had falsely charged Christ. "And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:" (Luke 23:13-14). Pilate desired to release Jesus, knowing that He was not guilty of the smallest of offenses (Luke 23:20).

If you had lived in Jerusalem would you, as Pilate did, give in to the majority? The majority was so wrong; but their voice was so loud and their senseless minds were so closed that no truth nor reason could find a place in them. Opinion polls prevailed. Mob rule overran the hearts of the vicious leaders. Anger, corruption, and ignorance flooded the scribes and Pharisees and they cried, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!"

Don’t allow the shallow reasoning and ignorance of the truth to overtake you. Only a few... “that is eight” (1Peter 3:20) souls who obeyed God and followed His word were saved from the flood. The majority were drowned and their dead bodies floated as evidence of their rebellion against God and the truth.
