Hearing Of
Their Faith

Traveling down the northern coast of California, one cannot help but appreciate the beauty and splendor of San Francisco. It is there, in a building located just off of Highway 101, that the saints of the Airport church of Christ worship and labor in South San Francisco.

In February, 1982, 94 people gathered at the home of Windell and Doris Fikes for the first worship service of the church in South San Francisco. From there, they moved their services to a nearby elementary school, where they worshipped for five years. In August 1987, they purchased the old PG&E building located on the corner of Miller and Linden. Soon, remodeling was done and the brethren continue to worship at that location today.

The congregation currently has no elders or deacons, but they do employ two full-time ministers. Windell Fikes has preached for the congregation since its beginning twenty years ago. For the past three years, Charles Ray Cobb has also served the church as a full-time minister. As their work continues to expand, the brethren have hired Francisco Aguilar as a third minister on a part-time basis.

With an average attendance of 76, the church is extremely active and evangelistic in their community. In addition to their weekly worship and Bible study services, they have numerous events that serve to educate the brethren and evangelize the lost. These events span the entire year with a different forum for almost every month.

Every January, they host the Annual Ladies Day. In February, a guest speaker is brought in to conduct the Marriage & Family Study Series. The April Gospel Meeting emphasizes the fundamentals, salvation, and the church. Vacation Bible School is conducted every June for children of all ages. Then, July is the month for the Northern California Christian Camp in Felton. The Annual Youth Meeting is held every year in August with an average attendance of 100 teens. September is the month for the Lectureship Series and the annual Planning session of the congregation. In November, the younger members of the

congregation honor the senior saints with a special luncheon. Finally, December is when they have their Issues and Answers Forum for understanding and dealing with contemporary issues facing the church.

The Airport church of Christ currently supports five different missionaries in Pacifica, California; Kauai, Hawaii; and three in Honduras. Additionally, they frequently send help to various places around the world. Two of their members just returned from working to help with earthquake relief in El Salvador. They also help support such works as the Philippine Bible College, Bibles For India, and the Christian Courier.

Among the goals of the brethren in South San Francisco is the desire to grow and mature to the time when qualified men may be appointed as elders. Additionally, they desire to continue a zealous and aggressive mission effort to reach out to more souls in both their community and abroad.

Services at the Airport church of Christ begin on Sunday morning at 9:30am for Bible class followed by worship at 10:30. Bible class for Spanish speakers starts at 1:30pm and then worship in Spanish takes place at 2:30. Sunday evening worship is at 6:00pm. Mid- week Bible study is conducted on Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.

They are located three miles north of the San Francisco Airport just off of Highway 101 on the corner of Miller and Linden streets. If you would like more information, you may call (650) 583-9000 or visit their web site at: www.airportcoc.org.
