John appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The people of Judea went to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan river confessing their sins. John's clothes was made of camel's hair and his belt around his waist was made of leather. He ate locusts and wild honey. John was preaching and telling the people, that there was one coming after him that he (John) was not worthy to untie His shoes. Then, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee to be baptized by John. “I shouldn’t be baptizing you,” said John, “but I need to be baptized by you.” Jesus replied, “Allow it to be done now, because we must do what God has said.” So, Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus came up out of the water, He saw the heavens open and the Holy Spirit like a dove descending (Landing) upon Him, and a voice came out of heavens "Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well pleased." From this story, we learn that Jesus is greater than anyone else. The Bible says that Jesus is greater than the angels (Hebrews 1:5) and that He has all power in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). |
Jesus set an example for us, because He obeyed God. John told Jesus that he did not need to be baptized, but Jesus said that God wanted Him to be baptized. So, Jesus did want God wanted Him to do. When Jesus did what God wanted Him to do, God spoke from Heaven and said that he was happy with Jesus. God is also happy when we do what God wants us to do. Jesus said, “If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him” (John 14:23). Cross Word Puzzle Across: Down:
