What is Easter?

Spring is a beautiful time of year. We begin to see things in full bloom after the cold winter. Things begin to "come to life." The Weather warms up and everything just looks wonderful. God's beauty is all around us. He made it that way. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."

Along with the seasons, man has invented holidays that go along with them. One holiday this time of year is Easter. What is Easter? Easter is defined as the festival celebrating the resurrection of Christ. Easter Sunday is the day on which Easter id celebrated. Is this something we should celebrate?

Since this is a religious holiday, it is different than Mother's Day, fourth of July, etc. Easter is celebrating when Jesus rose from the dead (Matthew 28:1-8). But, just because Jesus rose from the dead, does that mean we should celebrate Easter as the world does? No, we should not. By this I mean that getting together and doing egg hunts and coloring eggs is not wrong. We are to remember Jesus' death every Sunday, if we are old enough to be baptized. We do not just go to church fir Easter and Christmas; but should go every time our congregation meets (Heb. 10:25). We are to be different than the world (Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:15).
