What Would Jesus Really Do? |
|||
I’m down to the last day before I must turn in this article. Procrastination? That might account for some of the delay. But, the question posed, which titles the article, scares me. That is right; it scares me. How do I speak for Jesus? How can I know for sure? …but we know what He did, right? The Bible tells the story. We know for sure. What would He do when? How? Where? With who? All in one page?! With apologies to David Garner, I am just going to let the answer go where it goes. I have no structure, no plan, no hope of ever answering the question in a worthy way. Let me just tell you a little about the Jesus I read about in the gospel accounts. What would Jesus really do? Jesus would really love people. He would throw off the masks that we love to wear. He would reach out and touch people with authentic compassion. He would get to know the lonely. He would embrace the outcast. He would remember the needy. Jesus would really scare the power brokers of our world. He would not succumb to the greed and ambition that plagues the world and fuels the oppression of millions. He would threaten the very foundations that support them through His humility and service. He would defy the weapons of control and manipulation that people stockpile in their arsenals of relational warfare. Jesus would really seek to rescue people. He would shed tears for the pain of sin. He would break the shackles of hell holding down countless people. He would tear away the barriers blocking unity and fellowship. His heart would break for the world. He would never turn His back on people who call and reach out to Him. Jesus would really enjoy you. He would buy you lunch or let you buy His, just to hang out. He would hold you accountable and check on you. He would talk straight and not make you wonder about His motives. |
