In Jeremiah chapter 36 we read about how some people treat God’s word. One day God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah. He told Jere.miah to write down everything on a scroll that He was going to say to him. God hoped that when the wicked people heard His words, they would stop doing bad things and become good. God said that He would forgive them if they would stop being bad. Jeremiah called for his helper, Baruch. Baruch wrote down the words God had spoken to Jeremiah. Jere.miah then told Baruch to go to the temple and read the scroll to the people. Maybe when the people heard God's words they would stop be.ing wicked. Baruch did everything Jeremiah told him to do. One of the king's helpers heard Baruch reading the scroll. He told others of the king's helpers. They called for Baruch and asked him to read the scroll to them. Baruch did as he had been asked. When the king's helpers heard these words from God, they went and told the king. The king asked one of his men to read the scroll to him. As the man read the word of God, the king cut off pieces of the scroll and threw them into the fire to burn. Soon the entire scroll containing God's words was burned up! |
This king did not love God, and he wanted to destroy God’s Word. The Bible tells us that if anyone takes away from God’s Word, he will be punished (Revelation 22:18-19). God punished the king for burning His Word. Just because the king destroyed the scroll with God’s words on it, that didn’t mean that God’s Word was gone. God told Jeremiah to write another scroll just like the first one. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). The Bible is God’s Word, and we sould respect it. We must read the Bible every day and obey what it says. Cross Word Puzzle Across: Down:
