God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh. The people of Nineveh were acting very bad. God wanted Jonah to warn them that God would destroy the city. But, Jonah did not want to go. He ran away and hid on a ship. God made a storm on the sea. The wind blew, and big waves rocked the boat in the water.

The sailors were very scared and the ship almost crashed. When they cast lots, the men found out that Jonah was the cause of the storm. The captain asked Jonah why there was a storm and Jonah told him that it was because he ran away from God. Jonah told the sailors to throw him out of the ship and the storm would stop. When they threw Jonah into the water, the storm stopped. The men feared God and made an offering.

As Jonah sank into the water, God made a big fish to swallow him. Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days. He prayed to God while he was in the fish. After three days, God made the fish vomit Jonah onto dry land. God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and preach to the people. This time, Jonah obeyed God and he went to Nineveh. All the people obeyed God and stopped doing bad things.

The Bible says that the stories in the Old Testament teach us many lessons (Romans 15:4). The story of Jonah and the whale teaches us many lessons. First, we learn that God wants us to obey Him. The Bible says that we must obey God always (Acts 5:29). Jesus said that we must obey God if we want to go to Heaven (Matthew 7:21).Another lesson that Jonah teaches us is about the power of God. God made the storm on the sea and He made the whale swallow Jonah. The Bible says that God made the world and all things in it (Genesis 1:1). Jesus said in Matthew 19:26 that God can do anything!
