pathetically deplorable that immediate change had to occur, but how would this be brought about? Obviously like any "change" needed at anytime: by the power of God's Word working in our lives (Rom. 1:16-17; James 1:25). Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood and read the law of God to the people from early morning until midday while certain of the Levites passed among the people and caused them to understand the law. The preaching of God's Word (2 Tim. 4:2) and a willingness to listen, learn and apply is so vital to our survival

WE CAN'T AFFORD TO FORSAKE THE HOUSE OF GOD [10:39]

Coming together upon the first day of the week as well as other set times for worship is essential to (1) keep the commands of Christ, and (2) listen, learn and grow (Heb. 10:25; Acts 2:42; 20:7; 2 Peter 3:18). Gathering together in the various assemblies has so many "benefits." Fellowship, involvement, encouragement, learning, edification, closeness, and unity are only a few of the great benefits. What we invest in the work of the Lord's church will, at maturation, pay great dividends.

CONCLUSION

The book of Nehemiah makes a significant contribution to the twentieth century Christian. Those things "written aforetime" certainly do refer to the writings of the prophets, and through careful consideration and application of such teaching, we are enlightened, edified, and motivated more deeply to do the Lord's will. If read, understood, and applied, more fruit of the Spirit will be produced.

delight is in the law of Jehovah, and in His law he doth meditate day and night" (Psalm 1:1-2). The fruit of the Spirit is the result of God’s Word directing our lives. It can be obtained no other way.

Exhortations

For all who would bear the Spirit’s fruit in their lives, let us follow the Spirit’s instruction! "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth" (2Timothy 2:15). "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby" (1Peter 2:2). "But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen" (2Peter 3:18).

(Non-Denominational, continued from page 2)

In this sense only do we see the Lord giving commands to action. Each local congregation is autonomous in having its own elders, deacons, evangelists and teachers, who are responsible directly to the King of kings for their actions (Philippians 1:1). Though these congregations are governed separately, they may cooperate in good works. Surely all who have good and honest hearts will want to be members of the New Testament church (Luke 8:11-15). It is spiritual union composed of subjects or members that have been born again by washing their robes and making them white in the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 7:13-17; John 3:3-5). They are the body of Christ, the family of God, in the kingdom and army of the Lord (Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22-23).

The members of the early church, that church we read about in the New Testament, wear no other names nor practice any other doctrine than the teachings of Christ which is the New Testament. Thus, to be nondenominational and use this term in the proper application; one can only speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent. I hope this becomes our plea in all religious matters.
