In 1 Kings 17, Elijah the prophet went to King Ahab and told him that there would be no rain for many years. Then, God told Elijah to leave and hide by a brook that was near the Jordan river. God said, “You will drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” Elijah obeyed God and went to the brook. The Ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening. And Elijah drank water from the brook. After a while, the brook dried up, because there was no rain. God told Elijah to go to a certain city. He said, “I have commanded a widow woman there to feed you.” Elijah obeyed God and went to the city. When he found the widow woman, he asked for some water and food. But, the woman said that she only had a little bit of food that she was cooking for her and her son. It was all they had and she said that it would be their last meal before they die. Elijah said, Do not be afraid. Make some food for me and then for you and your son. For God said that the barrel of meal and the jug of oil will not run out until the rain falls again. So, the woman did what Elijah told her and their food lasted until the day the rains came. |
From this story, we learn that God takes care of the people who love Him and obey Him. King David once said, “I have been young, and now am old; and I have not seen the righteous forgotten, or his children begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25). Jesus said not to worry about food, clothes, or a house (Matthew 6:31-34). He said that God knows what you need before you even ask Him. Jesus also tells us to seek first the kingdom of God, and He will give us all the things we need. Cross Word Puzzle Across: Down:
