In Luke 15, we learn the story of the prodigal son. He asked his father for his inheritance early and then left home. He lived very sinfully and spent all of his money. He became so poor that he got a job feeding pigs and wanted to eat their food. Finally, he decided to go home and tell his father that he was sorry. When he got home, his father was happy to see him and made a feast to celebrate. The family and friends of the prodigal son were celebrating and rejoicing over his return home. As the older brother came near the house, he heard music and learned that it was in joy at his brother’s return. He was very angry and refused to enter the house. His father begged him to come inside and join them. But, the angry son answered that he had always been a good son. He was obedient, serving, and never broke the father’s commandments. The young man then added, “You never gave me a celebration with my friends.” The father told his son, |
“Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. It was right to rejoice and be merry, because your brother was lost and now is found.” The older brother in this story was jealous. He thought that he deserved a party more than his brother. The Bible tells us that we should not be jealous (envy) of others (Galatians 5:26). The Jews killed Jesus because they were jealous of Him (Mark 15:10). Instead, we should love each other (1 John 3:11). The Bible also tells us that if someone else is happy because of something good, we should be happy with them (Romans 12:15). Cross Word Puzzle Across: Down:
