The Fruits Of The Spirit - Faith

he influence of the Holy Spirit in our life, by the revelation of God, produces the seventh fruit of the Spirit called "faith" (KJV), or "faithfulness" (ASV). It is from the Greek word PISTIS meaning “fidelity, faithfulness, i.e. the character of one who can be relied on.” The word “faithfulness” is found fifty-one times in the King James Version, showing the importance of this word in Heaven's sight.

From this fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22, we draw the thought of fidelity, loyalty, being trustworthy, constant, walking in conviction, being steadfast, and dependable. It describes one who can be trusted and confided in, as they are being directed by the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

Christians are always intent on being "faithful" to the Lord, in order to hear Him say in the Judgment, "Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord" (Matt. 25:21, 23).

Applying And Bearing This Fruit

Applying And Bearing This Fruit Jesus has not promised to be the "author of eternal salvation" to any who will not obey Him (Heb. 5:8-9). All who will obey can call Him their Saviour and Lord (Lk. 6:46; Acts 4:12). Faith, repentance, confession of the name of Christ, and baptism into Christ for the remission of sins, are necessary before one can bear the fruit of "faithfulness" in Christ (Acts 2:38-42).

For one to be faithful, he must have a strong enough faith in the Word of God to live as the Bible teaches, even under the persecution of the world (I John 5:4). This kind of faith is often times called conviction (Heb. ll:l). This is the faith or "faithfulness" that will give us the crown of life at the end of our journey! Peter said, "Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls" (I Pet. l:9). The Christian is to be full of joyful trust, as that trust is bonded to obedient faith.

Paul always referred to faith, or faithfulness in Christ in the book of Romans, as "the obedience of faith" (Rom. l:5; 16:26). Saving faith is that which obeys the commands of the Lord in love (John 8:31-32; 20:30-31). Previous to giving the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23), Paul wrote, "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love” (Gal. 5:6).

We should be "faithful" in every aspect of our lives, i.e. dependable, to be trusted, constant in our duties! Whether we be elders, deacons, preachers, or members of the church of Christ; Wives, husbands, mother, father, daughter, or a son in the home; Friend, employer, or employee in our jobs, let us as Christians always produce the fruit of "faithfulness" (Rev. 2:10).
