For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth...Eph 5:9

“The Book of Mormon must be either true or false […] If false, it is one of the most cunning, wicked, bold, deep-laid impositions ever palmed upon the world; calculated to deceive and ruin millions who will sincerely receive it as the word of God, and will suppose themselves securely built upon the rock of truth until they are plunged, with their families, into hopeless despair. The nature of the Book of Mormon is such that, if true, no one can possibly be saved and reject it; if false, no one can possibly be saved and receive it. Therefore, every soul in all the world is equally interested in ascertaining its truth or falsity […] If, after rigid examination, it be found an imposition, it should be extensively published to the world as such. The evidence and arguments upon which the imposture was detected should be clearly and logically stated, that those who have been sincerely, yet unfortunately, deceived may perceive the nature of the deception, and be reclaimed, and that those who continue to publish the delusion may be exposed and silenced” (Orson Pratt, Introduction To Divine Authenticity To The Book of Mormon, pp. 124-25; as quoted by Roy H. Lanier, Mormon Doctrine tract, privately published). The same could also be said for two other works that those of the Mormon religion hold to be authoritative: The Pearl of Great Price and The Doctrine and Covenants. In the space allotted for this article, we shall point out some glaring deficiencies of Mormonism. If it can be shown that these three books contradict themselves or the Bible, then it will be clear that they are to be rejected. This is exactly what the Mormon leader and “apostle” Orson Pratt wanted us to do. More importantly, such is what our Lord would have us to do (Matt. 7:15-16; 24:4-5; 1 Thess. 5:21; 1 John 4:1). One could spend a considerable amount of time noting the grammatical errors or documenting the contradictions between the three Mormon books. Our time shall be spent documenting the contradictions between the Mormon books and the Bible. If the Bible is true, then The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of Great Price, and The Doctrine and Covenants are all false. If these other books are true, then the Bible is false. It is that simple. 1. Book of Mormon – Jesus born in Jerusalem (Alma 7:10) |
2. Pearl of Great Price – Joel’s prophecy unfulfilled (Joseph Smith 2:41) This is only a very small sample of the contradictions between books of Mormon doctrine and the Bible. Even from such a small sample, it is clear that both cannot be true. One, or both, must be rejected. It is our contention that the Bible is God’s all-sufficient revelation to man (2 Tim. 3:16-17). The Bible sets out all that is necessary for man to become a saved person and all that is necessary for one to live acceptably to God as a saved person (2 Peter 1:3-4). Thus we must love and follow the Bible – and the Bible alone! Bart Warren, Ramer, TN |
