Jesus was very sad. He was sad because wicked King Herod had killed John the Baptist. Jesus got into a boat with his disciples and went out to a desert place so they could be alone. The people heard where Jesus had gone, and followed him. He healed their sick and preached to them. When evening came, the people were tired and hungry. The disciples wanted Jesus to send them away. Jesus told the disciples to give the people food before they were sent away. The disciples were amazed. They had only five loaves and two fishes. Jesus said, "bring them to me." Jesus had the people to sit down on the grass. They sat in com.panies of fifty and one hundred. Jesus took the food and prayed to bless it. He broke the bread and gave it to the disciples. The disciples distrib.uted bread and fish to all the people. All ate and were filled. The number who ate was about five thousand men besides women and children also. |
When the feast was over, Jesus had the disciples gather up the food which was left. They gathered twelve baskets full. All the people were amazed that the Son of God had such power. Jesus loves and cares for us, just like he cared for the people in this story. Jesus said that we should not worry about what we will eat or wear, because God takes care of our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Jesus also taught us about being thankful. Before everyone ate the food, Jesus prayed to God and thanked Him for the food. we should always be thankful for our food. The Bible says that everything is good to eat and we should eat it with thanksgiving and prayer (1 Timothy 4:4). Cross Word Puzzle Across: Down:
