(Who Are We, continued from page 8) iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:14). Israel was God’s special people for fifteen hundred years. “But when the fullness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, that he might redeem them that were under the law ---” (Galatians 4: 4,5). When our Savior hung on the cross He fulfilled the law of Moses and took it out of the way (Colossians 2;14), and thus completed God’s purpose for the Jewish nation. From that time forward Christians, not the Jews, are the Israel of God (Galatians 6:16). Christians are all these things written by Peter. God has blessed us with these qualities in order that we may “show forth the excellencies” of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. When we manifest these qualities in our lives our identity as children of God will be without question. The blessing of being a child of God is extended to every person who will obey the gospel of Christ and thus be added to His church which is “an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession.” - James Rickard |
